British Film Institute (BFI)

The BFI (British Film Institute) was established in 1933. Its archive is the largest in the world; 50,000 fiction films, 100,000 documentaries and 625,000 television programmes. It continues to preserve and promote Britain's rich film and television heritage.

BFI Southbank

Formerly the National Film Theatre, the BFI Southbank has been refurbished and extended. The first challenge was to interpret the new Johnson Banks logo inspired by a cinematic lens flare. The second challenge was to bind the two parts of the building - the 'old part' (NFT) and 'new part'. Decision points were determined and the walls effectively became signs: painted warm grey with huge matt white graphics.
